If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. - Mother Theresa
What is your interest in PeaceWork?
I am an activist based in Indianapolis, Indiana with a strong focus on ending childhood violence interpersonally, locally and globally. Since 1989, I have traveled over 3,000 miles by wheelchair raising awareness on children's issues and have organized walks, memorials, speaking engagements, workshops, concerts, poetry readings and much more. If it will spread hope and is done peacefully, I will do it.
How long have you been involved in PeaceMaking?
I organized my first event in 1988, and began my primary effort "The Tenderness Tour" in 1989. I have been heavily involved ever since.
Beginning October 7th, 2009 I will offer my 20th Annual Tenderness Tour, a wheelchair ride across the state of Indiana benefiting 3 organizations working to end violence in the lives of children. I welcome volunteers and donors!
Are you currently involved in any non-profit or volunteer work?
I am the founder/director of the "Tenderness Tour," an Indianapolis organization working to end childhood violence with a primary focus on child abuse and domestic violence.
I am a licensed Brethren minister in Indianapolis.
What is your Passion? Your Purpose?
My purpose is to end childhood violence by offering hope and inspiration to communities worldwide. I aspire to sharing the power of one person to make a difference...regardless of economic status, disability/ability, or one's own life experiences. Healing is always possible and the cycles of abuse and violence can be broken.
How do any products or services you offer contribute to making the world more peaceful?
I primarily use my writing as my peacemaking tool, though this is often joined by my speaking and outreach. "The Tenderness Tour" does also an "Everyone is Beautiful" bumper sticker, however, my focus is on using my gifts to create peace and harmony in the world.
I've also just this year put out a benefit CD for the Tenderness Tour called "Give a Girl a Chance" with 100% of the proceeds benefiting 3 organizations: Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, New Community Project and Young Peacemaker's Film Project.
Is there anything else that you'd like us to know about you?
I am a paraplegic/double amputee with spina bifida and actively work to empower disabled individuals in making a difference in their own lives and the lives of others.
I am writing you to ask if you can help spread the word about Globalfamily Day (one day of peace and sharing), celebrated every January 1st by the citizens of the world. It is a day where individuals and families share food with friends (especially the needy), make personal pledges of non-violence, and spread a message of peace and sharing by ringing a bells or beating a drum in hopes of making society and the world a safer place to live.
Globalfamily Day is an official international day of peace and sharing. The day was co-founded by Linda Grover and Congressman John Conyers (chief sponsor of the Martin Luther King holiday). Globalfamily Day has twice received the unanimous support of the U.S. Congress (S. Con. Res. 138, S. Res. 582, H. Con. Res. 317), the UN General Assembly (Resolutions 54/29 and 56/2), thirty-plus sitting heads of state and ambassadors representing more than 2/3 of the worlds population.
We have two brand new resolutions pending in the US Senate and House of Representatives (S. Res. 357 and H. Con. Res. 221) asking all Americans to observe Globalfamily Day on January 1, 2010 and asking President Obama to invite world leaders to celebrate Globalfamiy Day. These resolutions will be introduced in congress this week. We are holding a press conference on Capitol Hill on December 16th. We hope we can get President Obama to support our initiative and get him to use Globalfamily Day as one of his Nobel Laureate projects.
Would you or any of your friends and associates be interested in helping us spread the word about the importance of celebrating a day of peace? If you are interested and available, please let me know how I can reach you by telephone or email. Feel free to call or email me at any time. Thank you so much for your wonderful thoughs. I hope we can continue this conversation. Carpe diem!
Sincerely
Matthew Mullen, National Director

Hi Richard,
Its great to meet you here on the Peace Portal.
I love your statement" I aspire to sharing the power of one person to make a difference...regardless of economic status, disability/ability, or one's own life experiences." We all have such great potential to influence what happens in our own arena( however large we chose to view it).
Love and blessings
