"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. " Thomas Edison
What is your interest in PeaceWork?
My friend Jennifer Star invited me and I trust her judgement. She knows that working on peace goals is important to me, and that I have spent some considerable effort in past years working on critical theory tools which can help us to listen and respect each and every single voice on this planet - a requisite first step I'd say.
How long have you been involved in PeaceMaking?
Most of my life has been inflected by progressive efforts that include peace, but in the sense you are asking, I'd say 10 or more years.
Are you currently involved in any non-profit or volunteer work?
no
If not, would you like to be?
no
What is your Passion? Your Purpose?
I am still trying to figure that out. But certainly I am passionate about the arts in general and my own artmaking in particular. I work in many ways to allow people to express themselves and to have that expression valued and honored. I believe in human dignity and our connection to mother earth and I hope to facilitate a deepening of respect for this foundational connection.
How do any products or services you offer contribute to making the world more peaceful?
I write texts that demonstrate the value of listening to every point in space. I do this by showing that the intellectual tradition of western science is not as unbiased as is widely believed, yet recently, it has itself actually created a new paradigm - in the form of cyberspace - whose properties in fact prove the valuation of each individual voice. I am interested in rights for posthumans (ie: avatars and robots, artificial intelligences and so on) because I believe that a society capable of granting rights to such posthuman entities will necessarily have to retroactively resolve all human rights issues as well. Peace is fundamentally tied to meeeting the basic needs of everyone. These issues of cyberspace, rights for posthumans, the valuation of every individual voice, human rights and re-thinking the role of the indigenous in relation to the intellectual tradition of western science are my contribution to a dialogue that can lead to peace.
Is there anything else that you'd like us to know about you?
I am a serious person, but I really love to dance, and clown and joke and do improv and connect in a deep and playful way with others.
Hi Tobey, I want to explain why your Hug video didn't appear - it's already in our library twice, and I'm trying now to eliminate duplicates because of the storage charges I would incur for the site's content as it grows. I hope you understand, and when new content appears, it' usually approved without any question. All Love, Alana
Hi Tobey, I'm looking forward to learning more with you, about how to listen and respect all voices, as to practice this can be quite challenging despite the best of intentions, at times.
Happy to see you here, and hope you'll be an active participant in our discusssions.
So glad you joined Peace Portal. I have found many interesting and highly creative people here, which validates for me the way to know peace and be able to express it and share it comes from a creative center, our heart center.
