A Home for the Holidays: A Call in the middle of the night

Very early the other morning, I received a call from Sri Lanka to thank me for a care package I recently sent and to tell me the heartbreaking news that many houses had been damaged beyond repair in the village where I helped open the first free Montessori school in Sri Lanka. This included the house of my "god child" Nimmi.

When I visited Lunugamvehera, Sri Lanka in March 2006 I became the honorary "god mother" of a small girl whose name was Nimmi. Nimmi's job during the Opening Cerem

What can three adults and two children accomplish in two days??

As I watched a 24 foot moving truck pull away from the curb on Sunday, I could not believe that three adults and two children (aged 8 and 9) could accomplish what we just had.

A new friend, Michelle Dulaney, whose spirit of generocity is so vast that it is hard to comprehend donated the entire contents (materials, shelving, rugs, tables, chairs, books ) of her school to Bridge 2 Peace. The trick, we had just a day and a half to inventory it, pack it and put it on a moving van bound fro

Small Business versus Big Business Generocity

I have been seeking out donations from Montessori companies and other companies for over a year now. My goal always is to see that this small village school in Sri Lanka has the best quality resources and materials that would put them on par with any school in the world.

What I have really noticed looking back is that the greatest generocity in giving comes from small companies. For instance, I sent out two emails this past weekend. One was to a small Montessori company that operates a

Tracy, It has been a while since I have been on the Peace Portal, but wanted to let you know that I am always looking for projects that connect my students with other children around the world. We would be honored to help your school with a school supply drive. Let me know what the restrictions are for receiving items from the US, and any mailing requirement there maybe. I have a great idea- I am heading up a rather large Eco-fest at our school in April, where the kids are putting on the Lorax play and we are educating the commuinty about Being Green-- I was trying to think of a service project for admittance into the festival-- I was considering a food drive, but your need is something that the kids would love to participate in. Just let me know-- You can reach me at teach001234@bellsouth.net.

Until then-- Blessings
In Peace,
Julie

Hi Tracy,

Thank you for inviting me to be part of the Peace Portal family. I can tell this will be a grand adventure! Your Peace Pie Mandala Project "How To" kit has been mailed and you ought to receive it next week. I'm so excited that you will be bringing this project to your peace pal kids, and perhaps elsewhere as well. Have fun!!!

Blessings, J*

Oh, please find Julie Danley in our membership. She is completely AMAZING as she got our Peace Art Card project off to a most inspiring start. She's also a Montessori teacher. Who knows, maybe a Montessori group - or teacher's resource group could be formed...

Great, I'll email it to you. My old mail all got wiped (accidentally) recently, so it was a blessing that this one survived that flood!

Hi again, do you still have a copy of that extraordinarily beautiful note you wrote to Alex last year, describing the setting of the school in Sri Lanka? I just found a copy I'd saved before taking the other blog down. I'd love for people here to know more about what you've been up to there. You can post all you want here on your page!
