What is your interest in PeaceWork?
From all angles -- heart, head, body, and spirit -- peace is the only way that makes any sense and is consistent with the dynamic harmony of nature.
How long have you been involved in PeaceMaking?
At least 40 years, since by service in Peace Corps in Nigeria.
Are you currently involved in any non-profit or volunteer work?
I am special projects coordinator for The Peace Alliance, working nationally and globally to increase awareness of and support for a culture of peace and government departments of peace (www.thepeacealliance.org and www.mfp-dop.org).
What is your Passion? Your Purpose?
Working to foster a culture of peace in the world where conflicts are resolved nonviolently and consistent with the Peace Approach. At the root of the Peace Approach is the understanding that conflict must be addressed from a commitment to meeting the fundamental needs of all humanity for security, mutual respect, and justice. The Peace Approach can be further defined by the following basic principles:
* Modeling. In our attitudes, behaviors, life, and work, modeling the peace we seek in the world and taking responsibility for peaceful outcomes.
* Listening. Respectfully and empathetically listening to and recognizing the legitimacy and needs of all parties in a conflict.
* Inclusion. Engaging and empowering all stakeholders in a given conflict transformation.
* Root Causes. Responding to the most fundamental human needs of sustenance, identity, security, and recognition.
* Bottom-Up. Peacebuilding from below to develop a new architecture of peace based upon the fundamental aspirations of everyone.
* Creativity. Opening space for the emergence of various possible outcomes to a given conflict and their potential for transformation.
* Healing. Recognizing mutual healing as a key to conflict transformation.
* Partnership. Individuals, civil society organizations, and government working in partnership with one another to reveal possibilities for dialogue and conflict transformation in a given situation – domestic as well as international.
How do any products or services you offer contribute to making the world more peaceful?
No products, only energy, spirit, and intention.

Dear Mike,
It is wonderful to find you here. I have met many involved in the Dept of Peace on the West Coast, having participated in the First NW Regional Conference in WA.
I wholeheartedly support the concepts of the DOP, and hope to become more involved by helping to plant the seeds of inner peace which expand to create the global change that you are working towards.
I hope that you will lead us here on Peace Portal in such a united vision in conjunction with the Peace Alliance.
Thank you for your outstanding contributions!
Christine
Hello Mike,
I a link in your profile for the visition of the US Department for Peace. I would like to encourage you and tell you that me and my friends are getting together for the International Peace Day to have a peace walk from our University to Down town. It will be about 2 hours walk.
Hi Mike, so happy to see you join us. Please put those URL links into the final boxes of the profile, designated for websites - then they'll be live links that we just click on.
Also, there are a number of PA/DoP members here, but no one has created a Group or Forum discussion yet. That's where the action is!
And, as you can see, we need representation here for the Global Ministries. If you can round up the people who can put some energy into these areas, I'll use that flashlight, I promise!
